Investment of $1.6 Million in Defence-Related Projects at CMQ

15 April 2026

The Québec Metallurgy Center (CMQ) recently welcomed Member of Parliament Caroline Desrochers, Trois?Rivières Mayor Jean?François Aubin, and representatives from Economic Development Canada for the Regions of Quebec (DEC) to its facilities for the official announcement of a federal investment totaling $1,641,900 under the Regional Initiative for Defence Investments (RIDI).

This funding will enable CMQ to reach a major milestone by becoming the only laboratory in Canada to obtain Nadcap accreditation, a critical certification for the qualification of materials intended for military equipment. This accreditation will position CMQ as a key technological partner for the defence and aerospace sectors.

Acquisition of Strategic Equipment

The investment will also support the acquisition of specialized equipment for dual?use applications in the development of critical materials. These new technological capabilities will enhance CMQ’s ability to support industry and conduct advanced testing directly in Québec.

The following equipment will be acquired as part of the project:

  • High?power LPBF 3D printer
  • CMT Additive Pro welding system
  • Induction coil and copper crucible for vacuum melting
